Morality and expediency are, dynamically, one and the same.
What is truly expedient in the long run, even if no one sees your action, must never be immoral.
What is courageous, no matter how difficult, must never be unjust.
Courage without justice is egomania. It is a form of psychopathy, perhaps a mix of self-righteousness and machismo. You need to be both courageous and just.
What is moral is what you believe is right, and what is ‘expedient’ is what helps you survive. But in the end, if you don’t consider other people, both are the same.
You can’t survive if you’re immoral, and being immoral harms your survival. Your survival depends on the tribe’s survival, and the tribe’s survival depends on your moral actions. Over time, this connection grows even stronger.
Morality and ethics automatically emerge when we realize the long term consequences of our actions
What benefits the collective is ultimately good for the individual, but not always in the short term. The opposite isn’t true.
A rule only holds if it works at every level. If something is wrong for one person, it’s wrong for a whole country. If it’s unjust for a small business, it’s unjust for a corporation.
Courage and justice must be scale-invariant.
